Reopening Update, October 28

Hello everyone,

Today’s reopening was a fantastic harvest — appropriately taking place during harvest season — of all our summer and early fall labors to remake the room to serve the community.

Following four months of work by Jay, Rick, and myself, the Library has been 75% unshelved, washed, and reshelved in better order and with better organization and accessibility. Revised Library Guides can be downloaded here: http://www.prelinger.com/2020-Library-FindingAid.pdf

On behalf of Jay, Rick, and myself, THANK YOU to those who are booking appointments. It’s new for us to have such managed capacity and to be appointment-driven but it worked out well today and we’re confident it can continue to work out in the future. We will increase the density of appointments as we all get used to the system. Today the socially-distanced protocols all functioned as planned. The back-to-front walkie-talkie system was a particular pleasure to put into practice.

We wish everyone some measure of peace of mind during this difficult season. Whether you find your peace of mind in a garden or a library or a bread bowl or a picket line or all four of these, we are with you in the long arc of history that WILL bend toward justice. The collections are here to serve.
